A dental bridge is a false tooth that is held in place by being attached to the teeth next to it, resembling a bridge. Dental bridges used to fill the space where a tooth has been removed, or has fallen out. The bridge will preserve the integrity or your existing teeth by preventing them from shifting to fill the space of the missing tooth.
Getting a dental bridge usually requires two or more visits. The two anchoring teeth must be prepared by removing a portion of the enamel to allow for a crown. Next a mold is made, so the bridge fits perfectly in between your teeth. A temporary bridge may also be made to hold the space open until your permanent bridge can be made and implanted.
Dental bridges cannot be used in every situation. Talk to your North York dentists at York Mills Family Dentistry to find out if dental bridges are for you.
